Climate Resilience Improvement Project (CRIP) was commenced in 2014 and implemented under Ministry of Irrigation and Water Resources Management with the financial facility of the World Bank. Department of Irrigation (ID), Road Development Authority (RDA), Mahaweli Authority of Sri Lanka (MASL), National Building Research Organization (NBRO) and Provincial Road Development Department (PRDD) in Uva Provincial are the key implementation agencies for the CRIP. Project Management Unit (PMU) of the CRIP is located in premises of the Ministry.
The project is mainly focused to establish a process that would built a more climatic resilient economy since current understanding of multispectral impacts of climate and flood & drought modeling and scenario analysis are not adequate at present. In addition, project supports to implement urgent climate mitigation investments required to ensure the short-term integrity of flood control and irrigation infrastructure, transport network and critical education facilities at risk. Hakwatunaoya Irrigation system which provide irrigation facilities for 2580Ha, with 2833 Beneficiary families were not fully rehabilitated for last 50 to 60 years.
